What has been happening
The last week on the ladder, straight off the results. Nobody writes this bit, it writes itself.
What this is
A local score board, kept honest
Right now Golden Point is two things: a running record of who has beaten whom, and a score card you can hold in one hand while you play. Log a result and the ladder updates itself.
The ladder
Every result feeds a rating. Beating someone above you moves it further, and longer matches and bigger cubes move it further still. Rankings, records, form and head to head, all in one place.
The score card
Built for a phone propped against the board. Tap to score a single, gammon or backgammon, turn the cube, and run a match clock that keeps the screen awake between rolls.
The ratings
Everyone starts at 1500 and the number moves with every game, weighted by the stakes and by how far apart the two players were. No mystery to it, the whole formula is written out.
Coming soon
A proper league is next
The ladder you are building now is the groundwork. Once there are enough regular players, the club opens up properly.
- Regular meet ups. A standing night on the calendar, open board, anyone welcome.
- A league season. League nights that count toward a season table, with a champion at the end of it.
- Tournaments. Bracketed events run on the night, with a live board anyone can follow.
Nothing to sign up for yet. Keep playing, keep logging results, and the ladder will be waiting.
